The Sun Jumpers, Ken Luber

Ten thousand years ago, two teenage lovers set out to save their clan.
But what they didn’t expect is to end up in the 21st century… The Sun Jumpers is a glorious, thrilling read that will keep you engrossed and enthralled from beginning to end. I found this book to be utterly phenomenal, and incredibly addictive! In other words, I found it unputdownable; I was impatient as I moved from page to page as I was desperate to reach the end.
This book has a riveting plot, astonishing characters and lets’s not forget, engrossing literature. All of these factors combined make this excellent book one of my favorite reads of the year. It is a triumphant piece of fiction that I would implore all of you lovely readers to read!

The synopsis of The Sun Jumpers is about two young lovers who want to save their cave-dwelling clan… I should add at this point that this was 10,000 years ago! And so, they set out on a dangerous quest to do so, but on their journey, they come across something strange, and soon they find themselves in the 21st century! This is the premise of this quirky, brilliant, unpredictable novel. I have kept my synopsis short because I do not want to spoil the excellent plot of the story. This book demands to be read, experienced, and felt and so that is why I am choosing to keep the plot so short so please, read this brilliant novel to find out more!

I found the plot of this novel to be incredibly gripping and magnificently glorious. This plot of this book surprised me on more than one occasion, this is thanks to the plots many twists and turns and this, in turn, meant that I did not get bored once! It is a diverse, all-consuming assault of brilliance that will keep you motivated to read until the very end; it is like the author had a spell on me and all I could do was surrender to its glory.

The story of The Sun Jumpers is a dynamic piece of work and unique. I have to say that I adored the quirkiness of this novel, very rarely do I read fantastic, beautiful books, so it was a real joy to be whisked away on this incredible adventure. What makes the read even better is that the pacing of the story was excellent and the literature exceptionally well written. I always measure my likeness of a book on whether I find myself looking at the page number. If I do in fact do this I know that the novel is taking its toll… in other words, it is dragging, and I want it to end, but The Sun Jumpers was different than this and not like this at all. Never once did I find myself referring to the page number and that is a sure sign that this book is a compelling piece of work that draws the reader in and captivates them to read it quickly and to reach the end of the book very fast.

Ken Luber is a talented writer, his words were radiant as well as electric, they jumped right off the page, and I felt this way from the very first page. His words were descriptive as well as creative, and for that, I am in awe of Luber and his engrossing book. It is the type of book that I would love to read again so I can pick up on new details, so the fact that Luber is already making me want to reread his book shows you just what a talented writer he is!

To conclude my thoughts on this exceptional novel, I would say if you love science fiction; specifically, time travel reads that are unique as well as excellently written then this incredible book is for you! This astonishing story gets Five Stars from me!

“Words are in time! Time is made up of words!”

This book is about a group of teenagers from 10,000 years ago who are determined to save their clan. However, they haven’t seen a single person outside their clan and they plan to go looking for them. Thus they embark on their journey which leads them to California in the 21st century!

Interesting Start

I started to like this book from the beginning. The world build up was fascinating and I loved the fact that it wasn’t dragged. The plot had a clever mix of fantasy with YA. Luber has done a great job at writing this book; it is filled with beautiful thoughts of life and cave culture.

Journey to another the world

The best part of the whole concept of time travelling in this book was that it didn’t go on and on. Soon enough, the characters find themselves in the modern day America and it was fun to read characters exploring the new world; at the same time trying to explain theirs to their ‘friend of the 21st century’, Darren. It made me feel that I did not cherish enough to be born in this era.

Dealt with important issues

The author brilliantly included various issues of racism, the problem of troubled relationships and the idea to believe in yourself. This book was full of love, compassion and friendships and there was not a single dull moment. I absolutely adored the fact that there was no religion specific ideologies in this book. Along with modern day American culture, India was mentioned at various instances along with river Gan (hinting at river Ganga maybe?) and the main characters name to be Sita, I loved the diversity of it all.

The book was full of humor and sarcastic dialogues and hinted at various issues which still persist in our society.

“My mother and father will never believe this. He said I could be the next shaman. I can’t tell them. No Kishoki woman has ever been a shaman!”

Final Thoughts

It was a fun and gripping read. Throughout the book, I had a feeling of being with the characters. It made me cherish all the things in life and fall in love with the style of story telling of the author. A definite recommendation to the fans of YA-fantasy.
